Historically every "free" man of the Germanic tribes was a warrior, and expected to serve frequently in such a capacity. Frije also came to mean "one's own," for to belong was to fulfill those duties of being "free." According to Germanic tradition, as soon as these men receive their gaizaz (spear) and skelduz (shield), they are frije ("free") adults, charged with equal shares and responsibilities in the tribe. Gaizoz Frije (Germanic Levy Spearmen) Gaizoz Frije ("One's own Spears"), whose name also means "Free Spears" are composed largely of local farmers and hunters, Germanic "free" men of the lowest rank, accustomed to frequent raids and tribal warfare from a young age.

For possible regionals check the Eleutheroi unit pages. These are not the only troops available to the Sweboz and other troop types will be available should the Sweboz expand out of Germania. The current list shows factional units as well as regional units from the surrounding provinces of the Sweboz kingdom. The Sweboz also have good cavalry and can give the enemy a nasty surprise should they underestimate them. However, unlike the Celts who might break, the Sweboz will instead disengage should this charge be halted, and invent a new plan for fighting. Infantry is the mainstay and they charge towards the enemy in a big 'warband'. So the heavy infantry image wil be abit hard to place here. The Sweboz' warriors & fighting tactics resemble that of its Celtic neighbours. The germanics wil be bigger and stronger than the avarge roman and greek. And wil be generally better in ruff terrain. Other advantages with light armor wil be stamina, fight and run longer, faster. In this way they wil balance the units somewhat. An hoplite wil be easy to hit (litle mobile defence) but more protection from armor(statinary defence). This meens that an suebi worrior is hard to hit (mobile defence) but get no protection when hit (statinary defence). Eaven if that would be historical accurate.Īfter reading the Armor article from jack lusted, it looks like light infantry of the Suebi and the celts wil have better defence(big shields) than for example hoplites but offcorse less Armor. However they wil make suebi an poor tribe in the game as the looks of it, so i am not shure if you are able to bay armor for youre suebian units. That was also the case for the celts and the germanic. Normaly in history the best force of an tribe or nation had the best equipment. I wouldn't take the Teutoburg battle too much to heart, the battle was broken up and showing ever harder units but where the romans largely tried to avoid the Suebi at the later stages. Think of your advantages you'll probably have larger numbers, with the primary weapon being the spear you'll be very capable at handling enemy cavalry, your general, nobles and berserkers will form a small but strong melee elite, the nightraiders and general use of ambushing will make the enemy morale plummet, and all those light infantry units? Many will be carrying throwing spears, if the wiki is anything to go by, bind up the enemy with one unit, use the other to tear throw them by launching framea into their backs. (they said they made so the germans would break more easily in the teutoburg show, so the guy could finish the mission, you see.) Light infantry will not simply be steamrolled by the enemy, I'm sure. Well the berserkers will be heavy infantry, as far as I understand, and the night raiders will probably be good at unnerving the enemy like crazy.
